About Jack

"There is beauty and drama all around us. As a fine artist, My task is to help you experience an uncommon feeling of pleasure and excitement from what you previously may have viewed as common." - Jack Providenti

From rich vibrant colors, often applied fresh from tube to canvas, to the gentle and subtle effects of soft pastels, Jack's impressionistic paintings celebrate the sensual pleasures of visual communication.

Born 1947 in Brooklyn, New York and raised in New Jersey, Jack has been painting pictures since he was ten years old. At that time he used pastel chalks to copy the works of the Old Masters. His first piece of art work was a duplication of Thomas Gainsborough's "Blue Boy".

Jack studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York and and the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts in New Jersey. Young and rebellious, he left college to live in a tent on Cape Cod, Massachusetts where he spent months painting the colorful seascapes and landscapes there.

The late 60's and 70's found Jack (along with many of his generation) questioning values. An urge to travel, coupled with a desire to see and experience many aspects of life led him through various occupations and philosophies. Convinced that the only way to live was to be true to ones' own passions and goals, he picked up his brushes again. For the last two decades Jack's focus has been to pick up where the early Impressionists left off and create art that elicits an emotional response from the viewer - the "glance" that captures an infinite moment of pleasure. He has been prolific at doing that with hundreds of paintings to his credit.

In the year 2000 Jack began painting murals for private homes and offices. his extensive portfolio now includes projects ranging from murals in an elevator shaft to detailed Tromp L 'oeil paintings. he has recently included both abstract and expressionism as methods to further communicate the infinite worlds of light and color.

The works of Jack Providenti are part of private collections throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe. He resides in Largo, Florida.
